Climate Change and Aquaculture in Canada: Pacific Workshop
The primary goal of the workshop was to connect the aquaculture industry with academic researchers and managers to understand how the impacts of climate change may affect their industries and strategize research approaches that will help ensure the ongoing viability of Canadian aquaculture through the pending effects of climate change. Specific themes of discussion included: 1) Fish and shellfish health 2) Storms and rising waters 3) Ocean acidification, and 4) Warming waters and invasive species.
The workshop outputs are to collate and disseminate current knowledge, to identify collaborative partners to bridge research gaps and to develop a targeted research approach. Ultimately this workshop aims to coordinate outcomes with the Atlantic coast companion workshop, to publish joint findings and develop a national Aquaculture and Climate Change Research Network which will support industry and governance.
